The U18 Boys team of Jotham, Arum and Tobi ably led by Omar won 5-1 at Purley Bury.  As Omar said "they went to take care of business" and they did!

The U18 Girls team were just too strong for a Ham & Petersham team.  Playing in atrocious conditions Angela and captain Rushan retained control and won both singles and the doubles in straight sets.

Our first ever team in the Premier Division (our other teams play in the Surrey county leagues while the premiership covers 10 counties in the South East) was the Boys 14U.  We were a bit nervous ahead of the fixture but in the event we romped away with a 5-1 win over the Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative.  Congratulations to Michael, Victor, Abdullahi and Andrew.  We are playing one of the strongest teams in the area when Canterbury visit us in a fortnight.

The adult teams

We put out a very youthful side to play our first match in the womens league.  Having gained promotion last year the new league was always likely to be tough and so it proved.  We played against a very good National Tennis Centre team in very windy conditions.  Rushan, Andrea, Naomi and Amanda fought well but ultimately without reward.

Mens first team lost 5-1 versus Dulwich.  The day did not start well for us when a mix up meant that Sam had to step in at the last moment to represent us.  Carlos was the bright spot securing us a win but Abdul, Niall and Sam were all defeated meaning we only had the slimmest of chances to turn the match around in the doubles.  We were strengthened by the arrival of Stephen for the doubles but this was not enough to turn the tide.

Mens first team's second match in the Division was away to Roehampton.  We would like to welcome Thomas Euget to the club.  Having not played for six months the only logical thing to do was to draft him straight into the team, and the ex Oxford blue was terrific in securing us a singles win.  We were in fine shape with the ever dependable Carlos and Abdul gaining victories.  A big thank you to Junior who stepped in at the last minute to play.  After the singles we were 3-1 up.  However, Abdul and Thomas let the opposition back in after starting strongly and we conceded both doubles.  A match tiebreak was therefore needed with Abdul starting in fine style to put us in the lead.  Carlos conjured up two match points but a backhand down the line just clipped the net and the chance was gone.  It all came down to a final doubles shoot out with Thomas and Junior representing us.  Alas it was not to be and despite a great effort we just came up short.

Our mens second team led by Martin followed the U18 Boys on court versus Purley Bury but with a radically different outcome.  Robert did really well but was edged out in a match tiebreak while Darrel and Martin lost their matches by single breaks of serve while Lionel as our number one faced a very strong opponent.  The doubles did not go well for us (this is becoming a theme) and the final score was 6-0.

Next week features our younger teams!
