Another tough weekend of fixtures on 12 and 13 May saw Southwark City Tennis Club finish with 4 wins and 2 defeats.
The Girls 18U team lead by the big hitting Rushan defeated Purley 3-0 to move further ahead with one match to play. Andrea dropped just three games in her singles match and only two in the doubles. The boys 18U captained by Omar had a rest as their opponents Virgin Active defaulted.
The 10U had a tough tie against an undefeated side from the Annabel Croft Academy. However, MJ was inspirational in seeing the boys through (Maceo, Tarique and Hamish) to a third straight win. This is likely to mean the tie against Sutton Academy will decide the title.
The excitement of the red leagues continued. A very promising team of Mathew, Michael, Joshua and Dorothy went down 6-10 to Westside in a great match. The team enjoyed an amazing feast after the match and were not too downcast. The Red second team playing at GMH Park were 9-7 winners over local rivals Old College. This is a fantastic effort for a young team just starting what we hope are their distinguished tennis careers!
Tough at the top, the Boys 14U team visited Hackney City Tennis Club seeking to redeem a heavy defeat against Canterbury. However, it was not to be as a strong Hackney side survived match points for Michael in the top match before going in at half time 3-0. Our boys couldn't raise themselves in the second half of the match and went down 6-0. Captain Sam was scathing saying that Michael and the doubles pairs should have got something out of the match.
